HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOX) – A Hazelwood West High School student who was arrested with a gun at the school earlier this week has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Prosecutors say school officials found the loaded weapon on 17-year-old Reginald Moorehead. He was taken to the principal’s office after witnesses reported he was selling narcotics.

A search discovered a loaded firearm in a bag around Moorehead’s waist. Charging documents state the weapon was a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

In a letter to parents, Principal Dennis Newell writes, “Unfortunately, we have had two incidents where a student brought a gun into our school within the last 45 days.”

Newell goes on to describe new safety measures that will be implemented.
