ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – While the most important traveler this Christmas will be using a sled to get around, the rest of us will be taking highways and airplanes over the holidays — and doing so in record numbers.
A strong economy and reasonable gas prices are expected to push the number of highway travelers over the holidays to 97 million.
“I think Friday’s going to be a big day, certainly Saturday will as well, followed by Sunday, and of course on New Years Day I’m sure that a lot of folks are going to be heading back,” says AAA’s Mike Right.
Another 10 million will fly over the holidays. Jeff Lea at Lambert says the airport’s going to be busier than last year, and suggests you get there especially early.
“We have a lot of travelers, a lot of families, young families, new travelers, that type of thing, so it’s really best to give yourself more time through the process,” he says.
Lea reminders flyers not to wrap your presents, just in case the TSA needs to take a look at them.
