Kevin Wheeler

wheeler Kevin WheelerKevin Wheeler came to KMOX in August of 2006 after spending the first 10 years of his professional radio career with the Chicago-based Sporting News Radio Network (known as One-On-One Sports prior to 2001 and now known as Yahoo! Sports Radio).

He joined the network in December of 1995 as an unpaid intern and worked his way up from the very bottom. After spending nearly 5 years hosting a regular weekend show and filling in on weekdays, he moved “The Kevin Wheeler Show” to weekday overnights (1-5 AM Central) on Sporting News Radio beginning in late January 2002 and continuing until December of 2005. “The Kevin Wheeler Show” was heard in most major markets across the United States and Canada, including St. Louis, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Vancouver and others. Kevin also served as The Sporting News’ Minor League Baseball Expert from late 2001 through the end of 2005 and as a lead writer and editor for John Benson’s Diamond Library publications from 1999-2007.

He also works as a baseball instructor for All-Star Performance (all-starperformance.net) in Kirkwood and with The Gamers (stlgamers.net) travel program.

Kevin was a baseball player in a former life, reaching the peak of his career as a bench warmer for the Miami Hurricanes in the early 90’s. As part of his coaching duties he teaches private hitting, catching and fielding lessons at All-Star Performance and runs the catching program for all ages (11u-18u) in The Gamers program.

When he’s not on the air, at a game or spending time with his family, Kevin is mostly likely watching sports on TV, listening to music (the louder the better!), playing video games or somehow doing all three at once.Kevin and his wife, Susan, are both 1994 graduates of the University of Miami, FL. Their teenage daughter, Shannon, is a devout animal lover (like her parents), an avid reader and a straight-A student.

FIVE QUESTIONS WITH KEVIN:

What is your favorite St. Louis activity?

Cardinals, Blues and Rams games (what else?)

What would you do if you weren’t in radio?
I’d be managing a baseball team somewhere

Do you have any pets?
Right now we have one dog and his name is Artoo. He’s a 1 year-old Havanese-Maltese mix. We’ll be adding another in the not-too-distant future.

Share one random fact.
I am a two-time Guinness Book of World Records record holder as one of the participants in the World’s Longest Baseball Game events in 2007 and 2009. I’ll be making that a 3-time World Record holder July 3-4-5, along with 39 other ballplayers, at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, MO. Go to worldrecordcharityevents.com for more details or to donate – we’re raising money for The Backstoppers with this year’s event after raising $365,000 in previous World Record events.

If you could live anywhere else in the country, where would it be?
Miami, FL – Being a University of Miami alum there is a lot that’s attractive to me about the South Florida lifestyle and you can’t beat the weather year-round.
