Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield responded to concerns raised by inspectors about the handling of elephants long before a zookeeper was killed by an elephant last week, zoo officials said.

Raja, Popular St. Louis Zoo Elephant, Turning 20

One of the most popular and certainly one of the biggest attractions at the St. Louis Zoo is celebrating a milestone birthday next week.


The Saint Louis Zoo has announced the birth of an Asian elephant by its mother, Rani the Zoo's 15-year-old Asian elephant,  in St. Louis on Friday, June 24, 2011. The baby appears healthy and is walking around.The elephant care staff has not yet confirmed the weight or height, because Rani is being very protective of her newborn.
