South County Connector
“Ludicrous and insane,” that’s what some opponents are saying about the proposal to build a so-called South County Connector.
The meeting was for informational purposes but it was clear most citizens there already knew about the project and its plan to cut through a city park.
The four-lane, divided roadway to connect mid and south St. Louis County has its fair share of critics but county officials appear to be undeterred.
Maplewood’s City Council has officially come out against the proposal, and Great Rivers Greenway has expressed expensive concerns.
“Why are we building a road to help people move farther out?” questioned one resident at a public meeting put on by Trailnet.
“It will pull quite a bit of traffic off the local roads so we’ll make those more walkable.”
An open house Tuesday on the “South County Connector” brought visions of bulldozers for many.
It’s a road which would cut a path from mid-to-south St. Louis County.
