Jury selection is underway for the trial of two parents who are accused of keeping their 6-year-old autistic son in a makeshift cage.
Terry Smith has pleaded not guilty to one count of felony child endangerment. He is accused of keeping his autistic son in a urine soaked cage.
A question posed by many is whether or not officials in St. Charles County were derelict in their duties when they returned the child and five others.
Police say the autistic child was in a 3-foot-by-6-foot crib covered with a plywood top and held together with bungee cords and zip ties.
