The St. Louis Treasurer says getting more area residents into mainstream financial services will lead them away from payday loans.
Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel says his office has returned $1.7 million worth of unclaimed property to five account owners in the first quarter of the state’s fiscal year.
“When you’re drowning in debt, you cut up the credit cards and only spend on essentials”.
Some worry information from cards could go public. “Not possible” says St. Louis treasurer.
“I believe that if you are a retiree, your pension benefit is what you get. That’s what you deserve,” Dan Rutherford told reporters before a presentation in Springfield.
The former treasurer of a mid-Missouri group that organizes youth sports has been charged in the disappearance of more than $65,000.
