Did you know that St. Louis regional teams have been Beer Pong World Champions for the last two years? In January of 2012, an Edwardsville team took the $50,000 grand prize and earned the title from the previous winners, a St. Louis team, at the World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas. The event has drawn more than 500 competitors from nine countries. Beer pong is the most popular drinking game of the moment, though other drinking games can still be found in local bars. Check out these St. Louis hotspots for a little competition with your nightlife.

Members of the World Champion St. Louis Beer Pong team have been known to play in a league at Side Pockets. The clean, upscale lounge is a popular place to watch UFC fights and other sports on 44 viewing screens. The roomy establishment boasts 20 pool tables, three dart boards and four Golden Tee golf games. Regulars enjoy poker on Tuesdays, pool leagues on Sunday and weekly Golden Tee tournaments, in addition to warming up for the Beer Pong World Series.

Is bocce a drinking game? For many people who visit Milo’s Bocce Garden, it is! Milo’s is an Italian-American tavern on the Hill that exudes a warm, friendly spirit. Hungry beer drinkers really appreciate a kitchen that’s open until 10 p.m., with tasty morsels like toasted ravioli, pizza and fried pepper jack cheese. But it’s the Italian neighborhood feeling and the bocce garden that are the real draw at Milo’s. Leagues take the courts Monday through Thursday evening, but there’s plenty of open play time on the weekends, and beginners are welcome. By the way, the regulars will appreciate if you pronounce it “bow-chee,” not “botch-ee.”

If you’re in the mood for a genuine college bar, the Library Annex is for you. During the day, students can plug in a laptop and study at one of the wooden tables over a pretzel burger or some pizza. But in the evenings, the Annex can resemble a  frat party. Darts, billiards, shuffleboard and dancing are popular at the Annex, but the beer pong tables are probably the star attraction. On slower nights, you can have a beer and catch a game on one of 20 screens.

The Lou’s Final Shot Beer Pong league has events four nights a week, plus a tournament almost every month. The league meets at nine area locations, and six of them are HotShots bars. In fact, HotShots has eight locations in the St. Louis area, with venues in Arnold, Bridgeton, Manchester, Maryland Heights, O’Fallon (IL & MO), South County and St. Charles, so this is a good place to get hooked up if you’d like to play competitively. HotShots also offers pool tables, dart boards, and other interactive games that might vary by location. HotShots also sponsors the Beer Friendly Co-Ed Kickball League for those who like their drinking games with a little athleticism.

Another great spot to hook up with the Final Shot Beer Pong league is the Sports Zone. The Zone has two locations, one in Shrewsbury and one in Arnold. Both have beer pong, poker nights, trivia nights and and UFC viewing parties. Billiards, darts, Golden Tee golf and Silver Strike bowling round out the gaming options at both locations. The Beer Pong league night is Wednesday, so that’s either a great night to watch the fun or a lousy night to get a beer pong table, depending on your point of view.
