Do you enjoy the challenge of a 5K run but are looking for a real change? Take your passion for running to a new level by participating in one or all of St Louis’ local color, mud and zombie runs. These races start in May and run through October 2013. Choose from bursts of color, muddy tracks and challenges or pushing your endurance to escape determined zombies.

Make a family day out of the Battlegrounds adventure run. There will be music, food and additional challenges on site. There is also a kid’s course to encourage young runners. The five-mile Battlegrounds adventure course consists of more than 30 obstacles that require physical skill and endurance. The course encompasses fields, woods, creeks and hills where runners will run, jump, crawl and climb along the muddy terrain that challenges their bodies and mental endurance.

Do you have zombie fever? Test your survival skills against determined zombies at Zombie Run-St Louis. ActiveHeros, benefiting local military in St. Louis, sponsors the zombie run at Queeny Park. If you are old enough to run, you can register for this 5K run. Or you can register to be a zombie and encourage others to run for their lives. Queeny Park is transformed into zombie land as runners use skill and cunning to escape the zombies and finish the course unscathed.

The Warrior Dash race is 3.17 miles of ultimate fitness challenges. The course includes open barbed wire-lined trenches, a high scaling wall and a triangular climb in a river drenched with hard rain. This is a challenging, muddy run open to all age groups and fitness levels.

Put your skills to the test by avoiding the walking dead in this 5K obstacle course. The Run for Your Lives zombie adventure will take you through uneven wooded areas and open fields. You may encounter buildings where you think it is safe to rest, but beware: zombies are lurking everywhere.
